I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Stephen Carr, and I have recently been hired as the Co-Coordinator for Clean Communities of Western New York. CCWNY was formed in 1995, to bring the initiatives of the U.S. Department of Energy Clean Cities Program to the regional area of Western New York. The coalition’s purpose is to educate and inform the western New York region on the economic and environmental benefits of alternative fuels in transportation applications. These fuels include electricity, biodiesel, natural gas, ethanol, propane and natural gas. CCWNY received its designation, as a Clean Cities organization, in 1995. At that ceremony, your organization was one of the 50 signatories on the Memorandum of Understanding, pledging to work with CCWNY. I understand it may have been a while since you were last contacted, but the CCWNY Board has been active. They have been meeting regularly working toward my hiring and are working now to obtain additional funding from the State and National organizations to support CCWNY. I am very excited about this position and look forward to revitalizing the group and making it the best Clean Cities organization possible. I believe that the time for increasing the knowledge and use of alternative fuel vehicles (AFV’s) in Western New York has never been better. During this time of economic uncertainty, economic development is critical to the regions employment levels and tax base. By increasing the use of AFV’s, we lessen our region’s air pollution emissions, and improve our ability to attract such companies. Also, by increasing the use of AFV’s, we lessen our Nation’s dependence on foreign oil, a subject that is critical to our Nation’s independence, now more than ever. In order to make these goals a reality, we need your support. I will be contacting you in the next few weeks to discuss your organizations ideas as to how Clean Communities of Western New York and our stakeholders can make things happen. Sincerely, Steve Carr Co-Coordinator CCWNY
